30 New Things Update
Well, I didn’t do super great in updating about my ‘30 New Things’ so here are a few experiences I neglected to write about -

16. Try lobster
A friend and I had never had lobster, something which some of our mutual friends found to be quite scandalous. So in order to remedy this situation they were kind enough to treat us both to our own lobster dinners. Okay, it should be noted that I have been a vegetarian for about 18 years. I’ll eat eggs in food, and maybe two times a year I’ll have some white fish, but that is about the extent of my meat consumption. Alright, that might be a slight lie, I sometimes eat soup at restaurants and the odds are pretty good that said soup is made with chicken stock…so I guess you could say I’m a “Don’t ask don’t tell vegetarian” in that respect. But, back to the story at hand. I ate a lobster. Or rather I tried to. This experienced showed me that I loath foods with a rubbery texture (tail) but I could tolerate the claws without wanting to gag too much. I know, what a horrible review of lobster, right? I’m just not a class lady, so perhaps it’s best that I stick to my carrots.
19. Find a beer that I like
I actually went to several breweries (both local and non-local) and bought a selection of beer at the local beverage center…and I have concluded that I just don’t like beer. If I must, I can tolerate a Blue Moon. However, what I do like is CIDER! Yay cider! For certain, you are so refreshing and tastier than beer. As far as cider goes, the favorite is Original Sin, it’s just so sassy. Afterward I think the ranking would go Strongbow, Harpoon and then Woodchuck, which comes in a variety of flavors, all of which I find to be too sweet.
24. Have some kind of crab dish
I’m fortunate enough to have an Uncle who owns his own restaurant and catering business. He is, in fact, a very popular person around holiday dinner time. This Christmas he made up some crab salad tarts. I have determined that I much much prefer crab over lobster…however, for some reason I just find it really difficult to bring myself to eat both types of seafood. I think, if I was given the choice, I would pretty much always choose a vegetarian dish. It’s not that I find it difficult to swallow animals per se, I think it’s more the chewing animals.

Re: 19. Have you tried the pear cider at the Pump Station? It comes from a little place in Orange County, N.Y. It’s crisp and refreshing.
No I haven’t! In fact I have only been to the Pump Station once and I found it to be pretty vegetarian unfriendly, but maybe I need to give it another try (:
