Handmade Gift Guide for the Boys
Sigh. I was visiting my parents this weekend and it finally snowed. Everything looks quite lovely, but unforunately I managed to leave my camera at home. Le sigh. So in an effort to avoid the icy roads I’ve been inside doing my Christmas shopping online. It’s fantastic – 1. No lines, 2. Interactive window shopping is fab, 3. Everyone loves getting mail. My resolution for this Christmas is to either make everyone their present or purchase them a handmade presents off Etsy…I don’t think everyone will appreciate this endeavor of mine, but I suppose it makes me feel a bit better. Shopping for girls seems so much easier for me than shopping for boys, so if you also find this difficult, here are some links that you can check out.

Food and Drink, the most important things in a man’s life: Perhaps go for some monogrammed high ball glass? Personally, I really like these glasses made from recycled Corona Light Beer bottles. Forget a flask from “Things Remembered” and go for a handmade Stoneware hip flask with shot glass. If you have an Indiana Jones wannabe on your list, and are willing to break the bank a bit, I’d go for this English leather bottle, which looks totally sweet. While not all men love to cook, move love to BBQ and Gormet spice rub and barbecue kit has pretty much everything they could need. Oo and I kind of love this Dia de los Muertos flask!
Encourage personal hygiene: Try this shaving gift set or how about Aquadementia Shaving Soap made with Blue Moon Beer I mean, it’s made with beer, and what man doesn’t love beer? This deep black pine tar soap is sufficiently manly enough as well. Or you could take a different route and go for a cologne, like this handmade oil for men named Wilde (how sassy!). I am personally tempted to try this Spicy Dude – Manly Skin Stuff based on the title and description. And this Sandalwood Forest soap just looks totally awesome. Etsy is chock full of bath products, many of which are tailored specifically to men.
Take it to the office or on an adventure: Hm what about a wool iPhone/iPod/wallet case or maybe a new laptop sleeve? I did this business card holder. Or a beautiful leather journal for documenting adventures and/or phone numbers and addresses? A sweet messenger bag for running errands and carting crap around? I am also largely amused by this “So and So’s Man Cave” sign, which I think my brother should have. There’s also this fully functional mug made from zebra wood (omg, what?), which I think looks pretty darn unique. Or maybe a carbon fiber wallet, because that seems excessive enough to be a successful present.
Clothing (or Accessories?) make the man: A Lumberjack scarf? Hellz yes. Or how about some Transformer cufflinks? Maybe a handmade belt buckle to go on a handmade belt? A solid, but still sophisticated, pinstriped ring? Totally crazy awesome steampunk googles (although I really have no idea where you’re going to be able to wear these). Oh I also love this belt, it’s customizable, meaning you can stamp whatever phrase you’d like into the leather. You can also man up your time piece by going for a distinguished pocketwatch. The Mighty Squirm and Isotope both have great T-shirt designs.
And, if you’re looking for something to grace your walls, look no farther than The Legendary Tiger Hero. Seriously, he will answer all your hopes.
