5 Foods I’m Pretty Sure I Could Live Off Of

As a child all of my favorite books revolved around food. I did not realize this until a few years ago when I was going through some boxes in the basement and came across my favorite reads. Stone Soup, The City Mouse and the Country Mouse, Five Minutes Peace…the list goes on and in each one food plays a prominent part. After I read the original Swiss Family Robinson in fourth grade I decided that I was going to live off of buttered biscuits. This lasted for a day or two, but if I had to choose I think these are the five foods I could eat everyday of my life. Of course I would clearly end up with a protein deficiency, but that’s life.

  1. Fruit: Oh fruit, I love you! Except for you grapefruit. How is it that you are even a fruit? You are very bitter and acidic, and unlike a lemon I have no use for you whatsoever. Except for as a Halls Vitamin C Cough Drop, in which you are a very tasty flavor.
  2. Cheese: You are the reason I could never be a vegan. I love cheese and all that is cheesy. Although my love of cheese does not extend to moldy cheese, such as Bleu Cheese. Perhaps I do not have a “developed” palate, or perhaps my allergy to penicillin makes me extra skeptical of cheeses that incorporate mold into their very being – either way mold, get out of my cheese. Boursin Pepper,  however, are the the bomb and I would eat you on just about everything.
  3. Bread: I love Carbohydrates and I’m proud of it. I love bread. I particularly love Easter bread, a family recipe and tradition. I love cinnamon bread, crusty bread, oat nut bread, just about any kind of bread. Except for sweatbreads…because wtf kind of name is that for the thymus gland? Ew, gross. I will not be tricked!
  4. Soup: Particularly stew, but I really like any kind of broth with vegetables in it, especially if it also has some kind of grain, like rice or barley. How can one be picky about soup?
  5. Dessert: I guess this is not a “food” so if I was going to have to choose one dessert to satisfy my sugar tooth everyday I would go with…Chocolate Mousse. That shiznit is amazing. I especially like to get my chocolate mousse fix in the form of a Chocolate Torte at Daisy Bakers (local restaurant and bar) and/or The Cheesecake Factory’s Tuxedo or Godiva Cheesecake.

In reality I live off of pudding snack cups, instant oatmeal and canned soup. The life of a graduate student is a poor one.  If you only got to choose 5, what foods do you think you could live off of?
